Today was...interesting.

Mark is on vacation (supposedly). I'm basically in charge right now, I'm really the only admin person around. This means that in spite of my cold, I cannot take time off for the next two weeks. I'm trying to sort out a computer purchase. The problem? The account it needs to go on doesn't exist yet. So before I order the computers, I really should set up the account.
I am getting the ROYAL FREAKING RUNAROUND!!! Hooooolyyyy Cow!!!!!! Dude!!!

I'm actually pretty unimpressed. We're not talking about a little tiny amount of money. We're talking in the several million dollar range here. I was getting frustrated because I thought I was doing something wrong. Turns out the big problem is this account isn't like other grant funds. It works differently. It's actually pretty complicated, yet at the same time blindingly simple With any luck, though, I will be given a number on Monday and we will get things going from there. As soon as I have a number to plug the funds into, all really should be well.
In the meantime, I have a general fund to which all spending can be diverted. I'll fix it with a few journal entries once all things are settled.Mark came in today to discuss things, even though he's on vacation. I'm not sure why he bothered. He was only in for a 1/2 hour. It was just enough time, though, for him to assure me that it's not my fault, he runs into this sort of wall FREQUENTLY with his accounts. Pediatrics seems to be like that. People have their own mini-empires, and no one likes having their toes stepped on. We will arrange a meeting with the appropriate parties when he is back from vaca.

I have had so many meetings in the last 2 weeks, it's been crazy. I have another meeting tomorrow. It's not on campus, it's at the downtown centre. This means tomorrow is going to either feel reeeally really long, or super short. Really long because the meeting is 3 hours, or super short because I won't be in my office until after around 1 or so.

I have another meeting September 9. Mark was conspicuously not invited. He could give a rat's rear, though. He's going anyway. I love Mark. As bosses go, he's so cool!!
